West Hattiesburg is an unincorporated area and census-designated place (CDP) in Lamar County, Mississippi, west of the city of Hattiesburg and east of the community of Oak Grove. It is part of the Hattiesburg metropolitan area. It had a decline in population from 6,305 at the 2000 census to 5,909 at the 2010 census. West Hattiesburg is in northeastern Lamar County and is bordered to the north, east, and south by the city of Hattiesburg. The area of West Hattiesburg dropped from 7.2 square miles (19 km2) at the 2000 census to 2.49 square miles (6.45 km2) as of 2019, primarily due to annexation of land by the city of Hattiesburg. Of the CDP's area in 2019, 0.1 square miles (0.2 km2), or 0.31%, are water. Lairds Lake is the main water body in the community.
